Research

Our focal points of research are

  • Shallow and deep geothermal energy use
  • Heat management
  • Development of urban quarters
  • Monitoring and quantifying environmental impacts, e.g. groundwater temperature monitoring
  • Energy efficient buildings

Our research projects

  • EASyQuart-Plus: Energy-efficient design and planning of decentralized utility networks for geothermal heating and cooling of urban districts – digitalization and practical implementation (project duration: January 2024 – December 2026; funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK); participation through UFZ).
  • Virumex: Viruses in Bank Filtration – In situ monitoring and risk management, with special consideration of the influence of extreme weather events (project duration: January 2022 – July 2026; funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU); participation through UFZ).
